ENVIRONMENT CASE STUDY
Waste Management Review and Tender
THE COMPANY
A leading food production group with multiple production facilities across the UK.
THE SITUATION
The group, consisting of five business units had different waste management service providers. There is no contract in place with these providers and service levels continue to deteriorate. In addition, the level of revenue generated from recyclates has fallen year on year despite improvements in segregation.
THE OBJECTIVE
Improve services levels and formalise supply relationship to support business-wide sustainability targets and increase revenue from recyclates.
THE STRATEGY
Appoint a single service provider that has a transparent cost structure and is fully aligned with the company’s sustainability aspirations.
THE APPROACH
A two-stage approach was undertaken:
Stage 1: The big six and other national service providers were engaged and invited to undertake a group-wide waste survey.
Stage 2: In conjunction with stakeholders, create a tender document using output from waste survey reviews and input from facilities managers from each site.
THE OUTPUT
• 3+1 contract agreed
• Management fee fixed for contract duration
• 28% reduction in cost
• Recyclates revenue increased by 7%
• Access to data (SLA’s and KPI’s) via an online portal
